Rust Converters

Rust Converters

I have a question I am in the process of restoring one of my cars. Some people have said cut out the rust and replace with new metal. Some have said try rust converters (POR 15, Rust Killer….) Some have said get another body. Because of the expense I am trying to do the work myself. I would love to try something like Rust Killer. Does these products really work?

You can only truly trust a product if Billy Mays had his name on it.

having used them in the past…i would say cut out and weld in new metal…it’s the only way to go…otherwise it’s going to come back on you :)

Fireswinger has a very good point, unfortunately these products do not have the long term use to prove how long they will last and are some what labeled incorrectly. I consider them a sealer and rust inhibitor but not a converter. You will see most are single aliphatic urethane with some fancy additives, they will stop and prevent rust but I don’t understand where they get conversion.
