1971 Pontiac 400 ci
I will never forget the first time when I got my engine running in my 1971 Pontiac Grand Prix. I wanted to see how much power it had. It was sitting in an old paint and body shop for years. The carb was missing and the huge rats did want to leave their home. I changed the oil, spark plugs, wires, and the rest of the fluids. I put the battery in and put a Holley Carburetor on. Then it was time for the gas. I was so excited! I pumped the accelerator and the motors turned over like a free spinning top. I tried it again and whoa what a sound. It was clear that this 400 was doctored up. The car made a deep lope lope sound. I was in love. I wanted to take it around the block. I put it in drive and it aggressively it spit out gravel rocks out of my gravel drive way into the street. The adrenalin was flowing and all of a sudden I floored. The smoke and sound lit up the neighborhood. Goose bumps raced up my arm. I could barely breathe. The speed odometer rose quickly to 70 mph while leaving a cloud of burnt rubber smoke. I then came back to reality and told myself you better slow down. I then slowly pressed the brakes and NOTHING HAPPENED! I was scared as… well you know…. I then slammed my foot on the emergency brakes and the rear wheels came screeching to a halt. The same smoke that I left when I started was suddenly all around me. I was yards before coming to a dead end street and running into a house. I put the car in park got out and wipe myself off. Neighbors came outside to check on me and with a small voice I said “I’m OK”. I could tell you many more adventures. That was the Baddest engine I‘ve had!

mine would have to be the nascar inspired 355 that was in my 71 nova. can’t tell ya how many times i spun that car out. i think it spent more time in peoples yards than on the street.

i gotta say, in my little lightweight Falcon, the factory 289 Hi-Po with a little bigger cam still sounds really good and gets plenty of torque. it’s a fun little “sleeper” that sounds so baddd with those solid lifters a nice lope! Flowmaster 40 series through 3” exhaust tops it off.

My 525 hp Chrysler 360 in my 79 Cordoba. First engine I ever built, and the sound through the open headers in my garage was the sweetest sound I ever heard in my life. Proudest moment ever

Built a 427 for a 69 SS 396 Nova. The motor found its way into my cousin’s 67 Chevelle. I have driven it several times with a TH400 and also with a 5 speed behind it. Still runs strong today.

i would have to say the BADDEST motor ive ever set my foot in was the one my father and i built for my 71 javelin SST!! we spent alot of money and most of the summer i turned 17 workin on that car. we found a 401 and had the local machine shop do it up right! we put it back in. i welded up a set of purple hornies to the manifolds that let out right under the front seats. the first time that thing fired up it litterally brought a tear to my eye! and the first time i got to drive it ill never forget, i went out of town a couple of miles to give it a bit of a shakedown and to make sure everything was gonna function properly, i stopped in the middle of the road, and just let her have it!! peddle through the floor hammered. that car let out a kackle that would of scared the devil!! stood the front tires probably a foot in the air and BANG!!! cracked the rear glass into about 7 pieces from body twist!! needless to say that car would make anyone who drove it find religion!! i loaned it to my brother and he ended up wrapping it around a bridge abutment not payin attention. i will never let him drive another one of my cars!
