Ads on the HUB

posted in: chris jacobs garage, news on February 20, 2010 at 01:50 PM

Hey Everybody! Wanted to take a quick second to say hello and explain some things that are happening here at the HUB

You may have noticed (and a lot of members have commented on) the fact that we are now running advertising on the site. It has always been our policy to make the HUB as user-friendly and simple as possible. We hope that as we have grown over the last 3 years that our members have gotten nothing but enjoyment out of our community.

The reality is, it’s expensive to maintain the HUB. It takes operating capital, and the only way to generate that is through advertising. We have tried to incorporate this advertising in the most streamlined, non-invasive way possible. We apologize if the banner ads in any way interfere with your use and enjoyment of the HUB.

We have great plans for the future of the site, most importantly new original programming like Top Shops. We have exciting plans for the expansion of HUB TV, but it takes money to make this a reality. So unfortunately there are only two ways to make it happen: Start charging a membership fee, or running ads on the site. I believe that most of our 28,000+ members would prefer to have the site remain free to use.

Please bear with us, the integration of ads is a work in progress and we welcome your feedback. Please send any questions or comments to mechanic@hubgarage.com and we will do our best to work with you.

Again, I said we welcome your feedback, not complaints. The HUB is all about positivity… and above all what truly unites us: Our love of cars.

Hang Loose,

Ok I for one want to see the Hub grow. Because in my opion its the best out there bar none. And I would rather not pay for it. So I guess I’ll live with the banners. Could be worse. There where some good suggestions on improvement that should be concidered. So lets all sit back and enjoy the Hub. Have a cold beer and a nice thick spam sandwich. God I’m hungry for one now

I am all for the banners …... on the other nine pages(home page, Blog page, news page, classifieds, hub directory, art gallery, top shops, Hub TV and store. I only have one page to call my own and prefer to keep the ads out – thanks for this great site and good luck with the new owners! P.S. : We miss Jae!

Thanks for your support guys… And Fordy, The HUB is owned by all of us, as members. The ads are a means to maintain the site. They do not “own” us. And yes, we miss Jae as well and wish him the best!

OK so now I am confused again, as “OWNERS” are we getting paid for the foreign car adds that appear on our domestic garages with out our consent?? Also my wife of over thirty five years says she had better not catch me making a date with one of those pop-up-floozies PERIOD. I do think Fordy is after our best interest. I guess some of these people that can not read his remarks and understand them should just keep quiet. Maybe they need it explained to them in simple words.

Well said, Chris. I personally do not have a problem with ads. I love the Hub and know the costs involved with keeping a website up. I added Google ads to my website to help offset some of the cost. I don’t get the hits on my site that the Hub gets, but trust me, I am not getting rich with Google ads. If there is something on the Hub that I do not like, or that I am not interested in, I simply don’t click on it. On the other hand, if I see an ad that peeks my interest, I will click on it.
Please, keep up the great work!

How do you pick featured featured cars, garages and photos? I see alot of the same thing on those pages. Also the most popular is overated. Dont get me wrong I check them out too but if you post some nice sexy ladies in your garage you become real popular. I would be interested if you are going to sell shares of the hubgarage anytime soon.

Chris, No problem with ads from me as all the other car sites I belong to have them and as long as they are car/garage/tool realated I’m all for it. I noticed someone posted about pop-ups, maybe I’m lucky or my pop-up blocker is a killer but I never get them here. Keep up the good work !!!

What I’ve been saying all along!! But nobody listens to me…..LOL
I’d like to keep the Hub free because my wife wouldn’t let me pay out to play on a site…....so if you ever have to impliment a user fee…....then I would have to go somewhere else to play…...and I like it here.

Like I said you don’t know what you have until it’s gone so just deal with the ads. I love this site it put this COMPUTER TO GOOD USEWHAT ELSE IS IT GOOD FOR but to enjoy life a little and that’s what the HUB is trying to do make life just a little brighter for the guys who can not get out to all of the car shows or do their own work any more. I have seen a lot of the best CAR SHOWS ABOUT CARS AND BUILDING CARS">SHOWS go to the side of the road and never return because of the cost and time that is invested to do it right so please just don’t take away my HUB. Things are rough for my wife and I just like the rest of you out their trying to decide what has to go so you can make ends meet and if I had to pay for the hub I would just use this computer for a paper weight.
Thanks Chris for posting something to lay it all on the line before a good thing is gone for ever.
Thanks and God Bless

your doing great…I love the site..hate the ads, but I most certainly understand the need. When I joined there were only 1300 members and 1800 ‘vehicles’....I have enjoyed every minute of it and will continue to do so…I also have earned my hits/views not with pic’s of ’sexy ladies’, but by posting some cool a$$ car stuff and a few unrelated jokes and pictures….I hope one day I can get you to come and do a top shop’s episode at my buddies shop Rod’s Car Craft

The Hub is by far the best networking gearhead site going! It was a great idea to get it up and rolling, and what ever it takes to keep it going is ok with me! I’d gladly pay a membership fee for if ever needed or I just might look into advertizing my new rotisserie the “Roller Hoop” here in the near future. Chris Keep up the great work and thanks for making the Hub simple to use for us computer dummies.

Banner ads ar Ok by me – totally understand the situation we need the means to keep the ball rolling here- its a great site and the ONLY social networking site I care to belong to. I think a lot of the issues have only arisen due to the lack of liasing with everyone and it was sort sprung upon your followers – more of a shock to the system than anything else; we will all get over it!
