165,000 mile everyday driver. I bought it on Valentines Day of 2003. We’ve been in love ever since….? It gets 30 mpg and is pretty dependable w/ the exception of the intake falling apart, dropping screws into the cylinders. Also, I’d like to mule kick the guy who designed the low beam headlight retainers. He must have had infant fingers.
A few details about the car: The car was nailed by one of the biggest hail storms I’ve ever seen just a few months after I bought it. So, off the car went for a House of Color white pearl paint job! I had the side mirrors blacked out to make the whole window area look blacked out. I sent the stock, factory, Protege5 wheels for black powder. I added a B&M short throw shifter, a replacement K&N filter, and a Mazdaspeed cat back exhaust while the car was in the garage on jackstands. I’ve since ditched the mazdaspeed exhaust because it causes a droaning at highway speed that’s cool for the first hour, but makes you want to gouge your ears out at one hour and one minute.
She’s been good when she’s not popping a code every other day. I’ll be using this car for daily transportation until the wheels fall off.
