Lazy People: Don't work on cars for a living!

Why? One reason is that most don’t tell their customers they will be getting the lazy version of whatever they are paying for.
Another is that we struggle everyday to repair and restore what some lazy, greedy hack has RECENTLY screwed up. Whether an unqualified jerk who says he’s a technician or some fool doing hack work to sell a car to some unsuspecting buyer-it is just wrong.
And they are typically the biggest hypocrites because if they get cheap shoddy work from say an electrician or plumber they cry and cry.
In fact we’ve got a real creampuff in the shop now, yet another person who bought a car that is a rustbucket covered up mess. How about I start a Hall of Shame Gallery?
Why do I bring this opinion to your attention today? My case in point is small but easy to describe. In disassembling a 1977 Dastun 280Z for restoration and performance upgrades I remove the ECU cover. Inspecting it I see the outer egde appears to have been painted-black over black?
This car has been repainted within the last 10 years or so.
So lazy painter doesn’t remove the 2 screws and ECU cover. Lazy painter doesn’t mask the jamb very well and there is a signifcant amount of overspray on the plastic ECU cover. Lazy painter doesn’t clean overspray from ECU cover, just rattle can some black paint over the overspray.
I don’t care if the owner of the car did this (which I know he didn’t), his cousin did it, the cheesey nationwide body shop chain did it, or the so-called quality collision shop. Lazy and wrong is still lazy and wrong.
I’ve finally got most of the black paint AND the light blue overspray scraped off. SHEESH!

Hacks are everywhere. There are no shortcuts when restoring cars. Careful planning, organization, time management, and hard work is the only way to do a job right. It is amazing how lazy people can be.

I agree. And these people also pass themselves off as experts in the field of restoration.

I often wonder how some manage to pass themsleves off-in some shops just look around! And hacks in any industry give the genuine craftsmen and legitimate businesses a bad rap.
