About
This is my father’s 1993 Nissan King Cab. He has owned it for the last ten years and it now has a little over 150,000 miles but it still runs, shifts, drives and rides like a new one. Anyhow, I had a set of Boyd Coddington Smoothie 6 17X8.5 wheels laying around that I had actually gotten ripped off on in an eBay purchase. They were advertised as “really clean & polished out” and in “excellent condition” I bought them for my ‘63 C10 and when they arrived they were in sad shape. I ended up buying another set for my truck and these had been collecting dust. A couple of months ago I decided to get them out and start the L-O-N-G tedious job of bringing them back to life. Starting with a Brillo pad (1 per wheel) I began cleaning the years & years of caked on grime & brake dust of of them, then I moved on to sand paper, a file and my two hands I started working out the really bad scrapes, scratches and bad oxidation. I then moved on to a Mothers PowerBall Mini MD (metal doctor) and Mothers Mag & Aluminum Scratch removing polish. It took a 10 ounce can and two PowerBalls but they were starting to come back to life, Next I switched to Mothers Billet Aluminum polish and they were gleaming! Then there were the center caps which had Boyd Coddington decals in the center but they were faded and peeling and they made the wheels still look rough so I searched eBay for a couple of months and finally found a set of engraved Boyd Coddington centers. Turns out I had bought them from one of Boyd’s sons so that was cool! I bought a new set of Hankook tires in 245-45-17 and went to put them on and guess what? The wheels didn’t fit, the lug pattern was correct but the center hole was too small and they wouldn’t fit over the trucks hubs! So…. was left wondering what to do next. Well, my first thought was a set of spacers, I went all over town looking for a set with zero success so I ordered some from Summit Racing, when they arrived I tried them but still no go. So I knew what had to be done, the center holes in the wheels would have to be machined to clear the hubs. I was a machinist before breaking my back so I asked my former employer if I could come in and use a milling machine for a while. He said that would be fine and I went in on 6/4/09 and bored the backside out from 3 inch diameter to 4 inch by a half inch deep. When I was done I loaded them up and finally revealed to my dad that they were his wheels. He was happily surprised and that evening I installed them on his truck in place of the stock 15 inch wheels. He was as happy as I think I’ve ever seen him. It’s amazing how a set of wheels transforms a vehicle from boring to hot! The next morning I broke out my Makita rotary buffer and we used a light compound to cut the truck’s badly neglected paint then used Mothers FX SynWax to bring out the shine. It looks the best it has looked the whole time he has owned it and now I don’t even have to buy him a father’s day present now LOL ;o)

Plans for this Vehicle
Hopefully to lower it a couple of inches and drive it ten more years (at least!)

Thanks to the jerk who misrepresented these wheels without his act of fraud this would have never happened!
