Raul Boesel

Thanks to 61 Power Thrift Garage for the answer to “the rest of the story” on the 55 Lincoln Indianapolis. It’s a very interesting story.
Today Question is: Pictured is Raul Boesel at Indy. What does he have in common with Indy drivers: Arie Luyendyk, Scott Brayton, Hiro Matsushita, Lynn St. James and Stephan Gregoire?

Na, Dick Simon Racing. Scotty Brayton was a good friend and was very tight with Dick and Dianne Simon. Scotty was a master wood worker and built a beautiful staircase for Dicks new digs out on Girls School Rd in Indy. I knew Dick back when he was driving for Rolla Vollstedt and while chatting with him on pit road at Indy, he showed me the sole of his racing shoe that was just hanging by a thread! He had just stepped out of his car after practice for qualifying! Dick and his whole team were great people for sure! Galen Fox worked out the back of his shop and built our Silver Crown engines for Gary Howard with Leland McSpadden (Tempe Tornado) driving in like 94 or so. I miss Scotty and think of him often. Nice question! Memories…Sigh.

Me too. Growing up I watched Dick race supermodifieds against the Sneva boys at the Utah State Fairgrounds track. About twice a year the promoter would bring in a intermission thrill show with a young Evil Knevil jumping his bike and doing a few other stunts…
