About
My stock but still unique in it’s own way Rabbit.
It’s basically a bone stock 1982 Rabbit Cabriolet that has had the body and some of the electrics redone on it. My Grandfather originally purchased this car as the convertible Volkswagen he always wanted. Sadly, convertible Beetles were out of the question at the time, as prices were higher than we were willing to pay for a decent one.
The solution was this little Rabbit.
History of this Vehicle
There is very little i know about this car’s past, other than it was produced in 1982. The first i had heard about it was when Grandpa found it sitting a field, having just recently been parked due to a leaky top.
He bought it for next to nothing, and knowing this would be a fair weather car, chose not to fix the top, instead concentrating on the bodywork and the running gear. After replacing a few shorted or destroyed relays, we had the car running like a top.
2 months after he purchased it, in October of 05, he started tearing it apart to prep for a full body respray. There turned out to be a ton of other paint underneath the top coat, and several layers of primer and filler to go through before we hit bare metal, which was quite dented and in so places rusted as well.
All of that was taken care of before the car was resprayed by a friend of ours; the exact color code is unknown (off the top of my head at least), but it’s basically candy apple red.
Plans for this Vehicle
Eventually the top will be refurbished so it doesn’t leak, and the rest of the electrical work will be completed, as well as an interior and drivetrain refresh (the engine is a bit tired if i’m honest)
Other than that there isn’t really anything big to be done to this car
