About
Well, as a kid from the UK, I grew up by the old WW2 runways of the mighty Eight air force, in fact – I learnt to ride a motorcycle on the 454th heavy Bomber Groups runway in Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk.
So, having a very Anglo American upbringing, I naturally was drawn toward the WW2 era and what happened after them times and the birth of the Hot Rod.
History of this Vehicle
This is a genuine P-38 Lightning drop tank, that now has a little 1937 V8-60 flathead motor and 3 speed gearbox in it, it also has a Model A front axle and rear banjo and eventually will be built to run at El Mirage dry lakes. for me to experience exactly what the WW2 guys did after the war.
I want to keep everything no later than 1949 and then will know how they felt as they ran the dry lake.
Plans for this Vehicle
Next year we shall tear it apart and work on the safety aspect of the chassis and then hopefully with the help of Kelvin Waddington of Waddington’s Street Rod and Restoration in Castelmaine, Australia. we hope to have this completed and running on the lake, nothing crazy but a fun and memorable set up for sure.
