If you are really interested, the complete painting process is outlined in “How to Paint Your Show Car”, published by Motorbooks. I know it is cheesy for me to ask you to buy this book, as I am the author of it, but it is full of tips and tricks that are critical for the best possible paint job. The products and techniques in this book have produced AMBR and Ridler Awards, as well as Best in Show at Pebble Beach and Amelia Island. 7 out of the last 8 Ridler Award winners used these techniques. In a nut shell, the carbon fiber body was cleaned, sanded with P120 and primed with Glasurit 1006-23 polyester primer. All body work was done on-top of the primer. 1006-23 was used again and was ultimatly final primed with 285-21 2K Glasurit primer. The basecoat color was Glasurit 90 Line, a waterbased basecoat and it was clearcoated with 923-200 Clear.

I sent Jay my SpaceRods and he liked them, but not enough to build one, but Helga Pollick, his assistant, told me that he did invite me to come to his show to meet him… that was a few years ago, never met him in person yet… cool dude and very funny!... oh well, someday…
