Season 5, Episode 6: That's All Volks!
This week Chip, Chris, and the A-Team turned their attention in a new direction. Venturing into uncharted territory, the show strayed from American muscle to focus on German engineering, specifically, a 1965 VW microbus. The bus’ owner, ‘Hot Dog Fred” (he sells hot dogs) dodged a bullet and got much more than a Weinermobile.
It’s nice to see the show stretch its legs a little and maybe, in the process, draw some new fans. For instance, I’m sure there are lots of new VW Hub-heads who took special interest in this weeks build.
Once again, the show’s new format allowed us a closer look into the details of the build. Fred wanted to keep a pretty vintage look for the bus, so Chip focused on small adjustments that made a big difference. Things like shortening the drip-rails, moving the turn signals, and adding a couple of windows up top are barely noticable on their own, but taken as a whole, they make a world of difference in cleaning up the lines of the vehicle and refining its look.
How do the VW purists on the Hub feel about the result?
Up next: the SEMA show!
-p.s.: Hey Rob, why the sling on this episode?
