old ohio gasser pictures?

posted in: artracer garage, news on December 19, 2008 at 10:12 PM

So when I was growing in the early 80s up my dad had a 68 or 69 barracuda gasser. It destinctive because it was a fast back with a chopped top and a full tube chassis and aluminum interior by Bogge (I think). It was built in Ohio and I’ve seen pictures of similar chopped cudas but dad’s was the only one with radiused wheel wells. Hurst and the Rod Shop had very similar chopped Cudas. When he got it it was pearl white and dark blue with no evidence of a repaint. In fact it was so clean there was no evidence that it had ever run. There was no tire rubber in the rear wells at all. But it was all 60s gasser- straight axle, wheelie bars, parachute, hand made seat where the rear seat should be, no front brakes. Does anybody here have any pictures of this car from back in the day?
Thanks for any help you can provide!

Someone just sent me this about old hot rod images;

Seems Life Mgazine has “millions” of images in their archives… and they put them all up on this site: http://images.google.com
The really cool thing is you can search them by topic… just put “Hot Rod” or “drag” (race) into the search engine… and loads of pictures come up. There are even some really neat ones take around the war… in Detroit… and so on.

It might help there are lots of old photos most are larger sizes. Can’t hurt to check it out. You may also want to try this site as they have several old photo of just gassers http://gassermadness.com/

Some of us on the Hub, don’t always hold the HAMB in high regard; But, they are the bomb for old information. Go to jalopyjournal.com then click on the HAMB. Try doing a search for some threads that may fit the bill or specifically try Historic Drag cars in motion!!! Maybe set up a screen name and float the question. Beware though, some of those guys are brutal to new guys. Poke around on the board for awhile to get the lay of the land then take a crack!!!!
