The Mulvane Marauders Car Club was originally founded in 1958 by a bunch of kids who thought it would be “cool” to start a real car club. It started with about a dozen members, some of whom didn’t even own a car, and a small shop in downtown Mulvane, Kansas. The club only lasted a few years before shutting down.
In June 1999, Jack Marinelli and a couple of friends still thought it would be “cool” to have a car club, only this time, do it right with a logo, T-shirts and jackets. After contacting more of the local car guys, the Mulvane Marauders were resurrected.
Since that time, the club has grown to 154 members from all around the area, including four of the original members and one of the original jackets!
In 2005, due to an increase in membership south of Mulvane, the Marauders formed a Southern Chapter, based out of Ark City, Kansas.
The Marauders have regular meetings on the third Thursday of each month at the Mulvane Saddle Club. On the first Saturday of each month, we have a breakfast at the Knot Just Another Restaurant in Udall, Kansas. The club also has an official newsletter in both printed, e-mail and Web site form.
Each year, we host the “Showdown in the Valley” Car Show in Mulvane, and each year over 300 cars are on display. The car show is a fundraiser for the city beautification program. And, every Christmas, the Marauders choose several families and/or charities for which it donates presents and money.
This year, we had a successful cruise to the Boys and Girls Club of South Central Kansas and provided gifts and money to three local families. The club focuses on family-oriented and charitable events. Each year a catered family picnic is held for all Marauder members. The picnic includes lots of cars, people and good times.
During the car show season, activities and events are scheduled for most weekends—from Friday and Saturday night cruises to Saturday and Sunday car shows.
Club members like to tour together and for out-of-town shows, we meet somewhere and cruise together. Additionally, we are the host club for two other major car shows in the area each year.
Club members range from teenagers to retirees and from original restored cars to true hot rods, customs, muscle-cars, pick-ups and all.
Membership is $25 per year, payable in June and pro-rated for memberships throughout the year. We also have an arrangement of club “stuff” including jackets, T-shirts, hats and especially aluminum license plates with our logo.
