Event Coverage-GoodGuys Hot Rod Nationals, June 12-14, 2009
Well, Jack and I made the trek out to Indy again this year. The trip was uneventful, But boy oh boy did that change once we got there. The pits started filing up and then the cars started to emerge. There were front engined diggers everywhere. It was rumored that there was 17 top fuel cars competeing for the 8 spots on the ladder. I can neither confirm nor deny that statement. I’l tell you though, that there were a bunch. There was an 8 car field for Funny Car and there were a couple more than that in the pits. Beyond that, the number and types of cars was overwhelming. There were a bunch of altereds running in non fuel classes along with a bunch more front engined dragsters. The GoodGuys and the Nostalgia Pro Comp Assoc. operate the event based on indexes, so it was not odd to see a FED paired against a door car. The racing action was just amazing.
Saturday evening, we got to hangin’ around in the pits ( of course we were living there, since the only wheels we had were Jacks Vette, and that was in race trim ). It wasn’t long before we were standing around throwing back a couple cold ones with a bunch of guys. I soon realized that there were at that moment guys from 6 states and 2 countries hangin’ out and bench racing. We had never before seen or met one another, but there we were laughing and joking like we had been friends forever. I beleive that that is the beauty of this car show/ drag race thing we all enjoy. It does not take long to develope a national network of friends that you can’t wait to see once you get back in their part of the country.
At any rate, go on over to my vehicles section and check out the pics. Many are already up…I will get the rest up tonight along with a couple of great videos!!!!
Have at it!!!!!!
