Patch Panel is WAYY In

posted in: old blue garage, news on February 07, 2011 at 10:59 PM

Ok Finally I got the freakin patch put in and that is done. For you guys doing the AOD tranny insert, well it’s a pita. Some people beat on the firewall and that was my plan till it started to rain when we had the motor AND trans up in the air and half in n out (hummm sounds like a famous burger stand here in So Cal) of the Falcon. Anyway. my partne , Foose Alvarez and the Amazing Carlos, cut the firewall and poof the damn thing slid in like… well don’t make me say it hahahahah.
I also got the shifter and linkage in and in the dry run it works like a champ, let’s just hope it works like a floor shifter huh??
I took the shifter apart , cleaned , painted and re assembled it, was pretty easy, but did you notice how it sticks straight up? The shifter pal hahahaha, I had the curved one, but it was all chewed up and I had this straight stick that was in great shape. The only bad thing was the light that goes on the shifter was BO and so I think right now I’m gonna just skip it unless you have an idea?? anyone?? Oh well Tomorrow,God willin and the creek don’t rise, I’m gonna buy a battery and put some juice to this monster and get on the wiring.

From here it looks like you only have three options on that shifter. Heat it, bent it & re-chrome it or replace it with a curved one, OR live with it as is! I’m doing and AOD in a 69 Comet 302 Tri-Power car. Back issues won’t let me run the 4 speed any more, two much pain when I hit bang through the gears – can’t resist so I’ve got to change the box. Are you aware of the balancing issues with the AOD & the V-8? If you have an internally balanced motor (aftermarket balanced) you need to use the 28 oz. flex-plate & if you are using a factory set up motor you are suppose to use the 50 oz. flex-plate. Check into it – the correct balance on the flex-plate could save your motor down the road. – Good luck.

Thanks yup I got a 50oz flywheel/flexplate as well as the harmonic balancer. and yup I’m gonna live with it for a while, actually it looks kinda cool hahahaha I hear ya about the pains of life, my knees are shot to hell so no more shifting for me. That AOD is supposed to be a sweet deal
