EDELBROCK AIR CONDITIONING SOLENOID ADD ON with CORRECT THROTTLE RETURN SPRING

EDELBROCK AIR CONDITIONING SOLENOID ADD ON with CORRECT THROTTLE RETURN SPRING

The original Mopar air conditioning on this 1969 Charger really sucks the horsepower, especially at idle. Because of this, I had to set the idle RPM quite high so the engine wouldn’t die at idle with the A/C on. I recently added an Edelbrock air conditioning solenoid to the Edelbrock 1406 carburetor. The solenoid & bracket fit perfectly and now when the A/C is on the solenoid engages and bumps up the idle RPM. I had to move the throttle return spring over from its “correct” position on the linkage to clear the solenoid, but it works just fine in the new position.

The solenoid kit is pricey ($125) for what it is and for the money Edelbrock should have included an electrical terminal with a pig tail lead to hook into the A/C clutch enable electrical wire. But they don’t, so you have to make your own terminal and wire.

I hear ya, have the same issue with idle on our Mach1. I have the original a/c solenoid & bracket from the original autolite carb BUT the bracket is going to take some modification to work with the Demon carb.
