New Location and Date for Chicago World of Wheels

Randy Shmitt brought out his new ride. After polishing the bare metal for 1 year he felt the '30 Model A was ready for the public!
This weekend saw a major change for the Chicago World of Wheels. In the past the show has always taken place at the McCormick Place in downtown Chicago.
For whatever reason, the show has moved from the city location to the suburb location of Rosemont. Now that the show is right by Ohare airport, it is much easier
for people out in the outlying areas to get to the show. Overall it seemed the show was right on target for attendance as well as number of car entries.
The new location meant that there were easily definied sections for different aspects of the show. For the Motorama section of the show, the crew of Voodoo
Larry Kustoms was able to get 64 entries. These entries ranged from really amazing kustoms and bobbers to radical show rods. The bands playing this weekend were
really good and DJ Joe was spinning some nice tunes that were being piped into the Motorama section of the show. And let me tell you, as a music fan, and a vendor
at these shows week after week, it was nice to hear something OTHER than Beach Boys, 38 Special, and Aerosmith. Instead Joe was turning out Dale Watson, Hank III,
and Link Wray.
The motorama section of the show is going to push for 100 entries next year and with the success of this year, there is little doubt they will reach the century mark.
This year saw cars come from as far away as Kansas City area to participate. And as local as 1 mile away…..a couple of local legends, Ron Ek and Bough had
thier killer kustoms on display. The ‘50 Chevy of Ron Ek had some new paint and it looked great. His buddy Baugh had his Mercury that he built himself. This
Mercury will be one of the feature cars that will be on the next Vintage Torque DVD.
It was also great to see the Tangerine Scream there at the show. Owner Scott Billish proudly displayed his Vintage Torque Fest promotional poster in his display
and many people came over to the booth to ask details about our show. The biggest question all weekend was about the entry requirements. We have updated
the entry requirements on the website. So I hope that will help get some confusion out of the way for people that are not quite sure if the cars they drive to the
Torque Fest will be able to get in. The bottom line is that there WILL be special guarded parking for those that have nice muscle cars or super nice restored rides.
So no matter if people are participants at Vintage Torque Fests or spectators….the spectacle of seeing the rides on the dirt track are going to be a really
cool thing to see for anyone that loves cars.
I hope to see everyone in Omaha this weekend at the World of Wheels show.
