Paint Update

posted in: danno's paint shop garage, news on November 01, 2009 at 06:20 AM

Ok guys, well here’s the deal!
Got some primer on the chevy yesterday, but made the error of trying to get it done too quick (I put the colour on too)
The result of which is now aborting the paintwork this weekend.

For some reason I just couldn’t get the colour to cover well enough, I was sure it needed a groundcoat just to give it some body before the basecoat, but the supplier didn’t give me any and it was too late to talk to him.

So I put a few coats of basecoat on but it was clear it was way too seethrough, so I pulled the plug for now!!!

On a positive note, I kind of like the colour, but in the photos it doesn’t show up very well.

Anyway, feel free to have a look at the photos and post your thoughts or comments

All for now!!

Neill

Hi Buckwild,

No base wasn’t reduced any more than recommended (you can tell by the hang on the mixing stick if it’s reduced too much), I believe it should have had a groundcoat, the product is Max Meyer (part of ppg) but to be honest, when I opened the tin of basecoat I thought it looked a little thin. I would have preferred a more main stream product but it wasn’t my choice, the owner got the paint, I was left to paint it!!!!

Will get the supplier out tomorrow to have a look. he also got me some super rapid hardener for the primer, damn the stuff was drying as I was putting it on, when I asked for a slow one!!
Not being familier with this max meyer stuff didn’t help!!

No worries, we’ll get it sorted.
