Question for everyone?

My wife recently was asking me, what would be the best car magazine to get a subscription of for my 12 year old son for Christmas? The first thing that popped in my head was hot rod, mostly because of the fact that I always enjoyed it. But I am almost 30 years old and I am the kind of person who does all the stuff that they write about and maybe thats why I enjoy it so much? But my thought is would he enjoy it? My question to everyone on here is: What do you think is the best car/automotive/hotrod magazine out there?

Hometown Hotrod Magazine is an incredible “grass roots” magazine that covers traditional hotrodding in the Midwest. The mag is actually published by a guy and his wife in Ft. Wayne, IN. Check it out at http://www.hometownhotrod.com/

What form of hot rodding is he into? Go fast later model stuff or does he dig the older stuff!!! I think a good middle of the road book that would keep him interested and show him 2 broad facets of our hobby is Rod and Custom. Street Rodder shows alot of the blingy stuff that kids seem to like as well as some of the trad. stuff! One of the 2 would be my choice!!!

The best car magazine out there? Is the one you read and pass along to your son. He will think, (my dad obviously reads the best magazine) because he can go in the garage and build anything from the magazine. Like father, like son. Count your blessings to be in such a fortunate position.

I was in the same boat, and we hit upon a great compromise:
I get Rod and Custom, my oldest gets Hot Rod, and we swap ‘em. Then, just to be certain he’s well-rounded on the history, we split a sub to the Rodder’s Journal… four issues per year of sheer bliss. To reiterate the great advice before my reply, “Count your blessings to be in such a fortunate position”.
Enjoy the hell out of these next few years.

You can’t go wrong with a subscription to the Rodder’s Journal.

What does he like? If he wants to see pics of cars join GoodGuys and they have great pics. Hot Rod, Rod and Custom, Street Rodder are all good. There is a magazine out there for almost any kind of car from Audi to VW. Take him to a car show or races and see what gets him going. That’s great you are doing that for him.

I love Traditional Rod and Kulture, the only problem is it only has a couple issues a year. The whole mag has wicked pics and great how-to articles.

I say stick with HOT ROD! When I was little my dad got HOT ROD, CAR CRAFT, and so on. Now I’m 41 and read the same rags that he did plus a couple more ( MOPAR MAG’S). If your into it, i”m sure he will feel the same.

Hot Rod or Rod & Custom. Watch out on Ol’ Skool Rodz, Kustom Kulture, Garage…some skimpy outfits on the ladies. Not sure that’s good for a 13 year old. (Nothing wrong with those mags, just may not be appropriate for a 13 yr. old)
