About
My friends and I got to go to this great little car show this weekend in Wichita, KS. There were about 400 cars, a lot of people, some fun music, and some notable celebrities, including Snug Harbor Hot Rods of Wagoner, OK, Gene Winfield, Norm Grabowski, the “Legends of Pinstriping” along with the Texas Bikini Team. Of particular note, I got to meet one of my favorite heros of the car hobby, Mr. Dennis Gage, of My Classic Car. We enjoyed listening to his great retelling of the Cowboys/Vikings game and got to visit for a bit. My friend, Shawntelle, really wanted to pet Dennis’ mustache, so we sidled up for a few pics.
The Darryl Starbird Collection included Phaze II, Predicta (the first bubbletop car in the custom world, and Lil Coffin (Monogram Model’s most famous hot rod). There were several vehicles of note, such as a car painted in flat orange with a metallic sparkle top, a rat rod truck almost entirely made of barbed wire with a stick shifter constructed of toy guns welded together, and many nice trucks and other cars. Also, quite a few motorcycles were present at the show. It really was quite enjoyable. I was hoping to see more Darryl cars, but I will just have to make the trek over to Afton, OK one of these days to see the museum.
