Is this a hand built system or is available somewhere?

A little of both. It was offered as a kit by a guy in Utah a few years back, but I had to seriously modify it. It was originally designed by a guy working at Ford who did the early 60’s Cobra IRS. Ford was experimenting with an IRS for the Mustang, but never went ahead with it. I’m not sure if they ever finished working it out, or if the guy in Utah misinterpreted the original blueprints he found. Either way, it is a complicated reverse-link setup and had some serious bump-steer. I eventually got it down to acceptable levels, but to be honest I’m going to put a whole new frame/suspension under the car based on a mix of Ford, Corvette and Porsche components.

Really! Let me venture a guess…9” Ford rear (poss. a Dutchman unit), Porsche 930 or 934 CV joints, and C5 suspension? How close am I? =) I’ve been looking into that set up for my own project (The Black). I’d love to hear more about yours.
BTW, this is a fabulous looking Mustang!

You are correct sir. It’s a setup I got (along with a cool new sheet metal frame and C5 front suspension) from Schroeder Speed and Custom in Oregon. They are on HubGarage at “http://www.hubgarage.com/mygarage/hotrod34pu”. They have pictures of my setup under “Muscle Car Frame”. Darryl is the owner and a real great guy. I’ve got so much on my plate, that I just hope I can get to the transplant in the next year.

How ironic. Dutchman highlighted them under their build page, and looking them up is what brought me to Hub Garage in the first place. Now I find you. Small world. Or perhaps it is better to say it is a small world of people looking to do C5 based IRS swaps into their muscle cars… If you don’t mind, I’ll probably PM you later with questions I have (I’m going a slightly different route, but close to your set up). I know “busy” (for sure), but I hope you can keep us updated on how the transplant is going. Good luck! You’ve got at least one Hubster rooting for you!
