Fordy Acres Car Farm has a CRASH !!!
So, I’m on my way over to pull out some shrubs over at my Dad’s house this morning, when all of a sudden…..a youngster backs out of his parent’s driveway without looking OR SLOWING !!! I saw him coming out from behind a hedge they have planted along the edge of the lane, but it’s simply too late and even if I did manage to get it stopped, it was pretty clear he was going to proceed onto the road anyway. So I swerve and brake as best I can, but I can’t get right over into the oncoming lane because a car was heading my way. I manage to clear the car backing out …..almost – just a slight brush on the quarter and bumper. Fortunately, the on coming driver also reacted when he saw that the youngster wasn’t going to stop, and went wide giving me enough room to squeeze through ( nice guy ). Now the drama begins. I just happened to hook up my 6×10 landscape trailer moments earlier and as you can guess, the youngster punts it over into the oncoming lane. Very bad news for the oncoming driver, his car is toast – left front wheel is disconnected and both airbags are deployed. Needless to say, the trailer now gets punted about 225 degrees to my right and the momentum is pulling my truck slideways in the grass on the rural shoulder. I am now sliding sideways toward a hydro pole and contact it at about 5 to 7 mph (maybe less) – just enough to mess up my perfect rust free 95’ Bronco. The only good news? Nobody had a scratch although my lower lips is getting rather raw from saying F%@K for the last 10 hours. At about hour 6 the body shop told me they will be marking it down as a total loss and it would be up to the adjuster to reverse that decision. The trailer took alot of abuse and it is really really bent, but I am very proud to say that not one of my welds broke (although some of the tubing was ripped within an inch of a couple of stressed areas. Even the oncoming guy said ” nice welds” after examining the wreckage – WHAT A DAY !
