Vintage valve covers and modern valvetrains

Mickey Thompson valve covers in 2010
Vintage Rod Components has been selling vintage Mickey Thompson NOS and restored valve covers for years and we get one question consistently…. “will they clear the roller rockers/stud girdles on my (fill in the blank… BBC/SBC/BBF/SBF/BBM/SBM/PONTIAC/CLEVELAND)?”
Though an industry leader and visionary in the 60’s, I doubt Mickey could see so far in the future that he designed THE iconic valve covers of the 60’s and 70’s to work with modern valvetrains. There were no “tall” or “short” valve covers, there were just Mickey Thompson valve covers. We offer spacers for applications where additional clearance is required, but again, how do you know? With a severe lack of documentation on early speed parts, we decided to do something about it once and for all….... document M/T’s so our customers don’t have to guess.
So far we’ve documented clearances on SBC, BBC, 335 series Ford (351c, 35m, 400) and 385 series Ford (429 & 460). Our stock of M/T’s is bigger than many speed shops back in the day, so it’s just a matter of time before we can provide data for the complete Mickey Thompson line.
Bare with us as a redesign is overdue with all the content we’ve added, but click on the hyperlinks above, or go to the homepage to click on the files we’ve created so far. And of course, if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact us!

Mopars fans can now determine valvetrain clearance with the SBM and BBM clearance sheets. Vintage Rod Components has been redesigned to load quicker, be easier to navigate, and play well with ALL browsers! We’ve also built make-specific sites so you won’t have to socialize with the “other” guys. Check out VintageChevyComponents.com, VintageFordComponents.com, VintageMoparComponents.com. We’ve also launched a new forum to exchange info and just BS.
