1st Time Model Car Championship comes to Stacey David's GearZ on the Speed Channel!

Revell Joins Popular SPEED Channel Series to ‘Reinvigorate’ the Hobby

NASHVILLE, TN—When he’s not building a full-size vehicle on the set of his hit SPEED Channel series, editing video footage, doing voiceovers, or deciding what to create next, GearZ host and executive producer, Stacey David, can often be found working on a model car.

As a way to relax while still maintaining his creative edge, Stacey has been a hobbyist as long or longer than he’s been fixing and modifying real cars. Starting his fifth season of GearZ this Fall, David previously hosted and produced another popular automotive series on Spike TV for eight years.

Together with GearZ, Illinois-based Revell Inc. will conduct the inaugural Revell/GearZ National Model Car Championships. With the help of some 2,000+ hobby shops and retailers, participants will be able to enter online or go to their local hobby shop to pick up an entry form and mail in photos of their models.

In addition to awards and valuable prizes from Revell, Testors, Coast Airbrush and Iwata, the model car magazines, and GearZ, the winners in each category will be recognized along with images of their models shown on an episode of Stacey David’s GearZ®.

Asked how today’s youth could be inspired and their interest in cars revitalized, David said, “We wanted to do something to spark their imagination, get them to use their hands and actually build something, and models seemed to be the perfect place to start. This contest will provide them with an incentive, along with bringing guys my age and older back into the hobby.”

“Revell is excited for the genuine partnership with Stacey David and GearZ to expose kids to the fun in building a scale model automobile kit," said Rick Haas, director of marketing for Revell, Inc. "It is also a fantastic opportunity to encourage those former “baby boomer” model builders to build a kit with their kids or grandkids since we even have a competition class for novice builders."

The contest period for the Revell/GearZ National Model Car Championships is from January 15, 2011, through May 15, 2011. The Hot Rod theme coincides with many of the vehicles built on GearZ, and with a number of new Revell releases. Complete rules are available at hobby specialists nationwide, online at www.Revell.com or www.gearztv.com. This promotion, a skill contest and not a sweepstakes, requires the purchase of one Revell or Monogram kit from a range of kits in order to qualify. However, for those of you on the Hub, here’s a little insider info: You can buy any of the qualifying kits NOW and start building either a box stock or modified category model because we’ve extended the contest period to allow retailers to take advantage of the Holiday season in selling kits. So hang on to your receipt, as you’ll need it to verify that you purchased a kit, but other than that, go ahead and start building.

I’m hoping to see many entrants from the Hub, and maybe a winner or two as well. The complete rules and the eligible model kits are shown below:

Description: This is a skill contest (“Promotion”), not a sweepstakes, which is co-sponsored by Revell Inc., 1850 Howard Street Unit A, Elk Grove Village, IL 60007, and Stacey David’s GearZ, produced by Rattletrap Productions, 1233 Northgate Business Parkway, Madison, TN 37115, represented by Roadhouse Marketing, 376 Dogwood Road, Banner Elk, NC 28604 (“Sponsor”) that begins on January 15, 2011. Jason, I’m honored to be included as a judge, but, I’m no longer editor/publisher of “Plastic Fanatic”. My new magazine is called “Model Car Builder”. If you could change that above I would appreciate it. Thanks.

I’ll change that this afternoon; thanks for the update. If you want, I can state you’re the founding editor/publisher of Plastic Fanatic, and current publisher & editor of Model Car Builder. Just let me know. Do you also want to be involved in the prize package?

It was announced at iHobby to all the hobby dealers and to the public by Revell, and by Stacey David of GearZ at SEMA. Both sites are working hard as we speak to integrate the online entry process. Revell’s parent company had used an online entry method in another type of hobby contest, and they are looking to see if they can simply modify it to work on Revell’s site. We (GearZ) are going to either pick that up once it’s finalized, or adapt it to work on ours. If that proves to be too complex, we’ll add an active link that will ‘land’ on the Revell contest site. Thanks for your comment, and I hope to see your entry soon—

As I mentioned in the Hub post, YOU, the HubGarage.com insider, are getting a huge ‘jump’ on the contest. Look over the list of kits that are eligible, purchase any one as the basis for your entry, and be sure to SAVE YOUR RECEIPT. It will validate your entry, and you will be able to show a purchase date prior to the actual contest dates.

This came about because of a direct request to Revell from a number of hobby dealers. They wanted to be able to sell them for the Holidays, and we saw no reason to restrict sales. In most cases, as a marketing firm we would like to be able to clearly distinguish any sales spike we created. However, as an enthusiast and hobbyist just like you, I know I wouldn’t want to wait. So there you have it!

This contest sounds great! Except for the exclusion of Canadian scale builders. Quote : ”Eligibility / Who May Enter: The Promotion is open to legal residents of the 50 United States with a valid email address (“Entrants”). ”

Being a founding member of one of Canada’s oldest model car clubs, I hope you will find some way to add in Canadian hobby shops and entrants. We run an annual model car contest in Toronto and there are many excellent car modellers in this area and right across Canada. FYI…this year I contacted over 70 hobby shops in Ontario about our contest, so there are lots of modellers here.

Howard, I’ll take it under advisement and ask Revell for their thoughts on including the Frozen North. You guys are getting ahead of us though; we have been asked by journalists and hobbyists already about going International with the Championship, and you KNOW we’re with all of you. Now that would be the greatest, to have more awards, bigger prizes, and to extend the contest worldwide. North America as a whole might be feasible this time around, so stay tuned and thanks for the request.

Please mention both Plastic Fanatic and Model Car Builder ( http://www.magcloud.com/browse/Issue/119733 ) magazines. That would be great, thanks. As for chipping in, I can give away a free magazine for each class winner, and I’d like to sponsor a Model Car Builder Magazine pick.

I would also throw in $100 worth of machine aluminum parts from Deco Rides 1/24th scale. You can contact me at shawrides124@yahoo.com on this if you like.
