Bad Day

posted in: 351 cleveland garage, news on July 30, 2010 at 07:07 PM

Went out to the garage to wipe down the Mach1 for it’s second car show and what do I find a nasty 1” scratch on the drivers quarter back by end cap. It was not there when I cleaned the car before last show. I was with the car most of the time and I can’t say definitely but I think a guy visiting the owners of a car next to ours in a wheel chair may have accidently bumped the car turning to leave. I am in no way bashing disabled as I am one but not to the effect that I would need a wheel chair. I noticed him between the cars and was worried something like this might happen but as day wore on I forgot about it. No matter who did it I just wish they would own up to it and I would most likely have said OK just be careful next time. Well I haven’t told the wife yet ( maybe tomorrow ), this is my luck can’t even get thru one season without a mishap. Just ranting !!!

That sucks! I’m a good sounding board. Had a similar incident with a woman and her baby stroller a few years back, saw her do it. Good luck with the wife. Ha-ha

If your wife is like mine…...don’t tell her a thing…..she’ll never notice it and most likely couldn’t care less
On the other hand, if your wife is like my buddies, go ahead and pack your stuff and get the heck out before she see’s it, your life is over!
Or if she’s like my sister (really really gullible), just let her drive it once and when she gets back, blame the scratch on her….LOL

Sorry to hear this. It’s amazing what some color match paint, some wet sanding and polish will do. Just make sure to build the scratch with paint above the original surface before sanding ! Build slowly to allow each layer to dry. Best of Luck!

Is it a base/clear finish? Is it a surface scratch or scratched through? Most new paint jobs are clearcoated and most surface scratches can be removed by colorsanding and buffing. Good Luck and sorry to hear this.

She took it better than I expected and said she didn’t think the guy in the wheel chair did it. OK I’m happy.

That’s funny, the wifes a trooper and took it in stride. We have to have another shop line the front fenders and hood up better so I’ll have them touch it up then.

Thanks, I’m no paint or bodyman so I’ll leave it to the experts, I’ll tackle any mechanical job but my bodywork sucks big time.

Yes B/C and it’s scratched deep, down to primer, I have a quart left of the paint so I’ll have the shop fix it. Thanks.

I guess I’m the a$$ around this house, she wasn’t all that upset and corrected me to the fact she didn’t think the guy in wheel chair did it. I just noticed him at the area of the car and the handles on the chair would have been the right hieght to do the damage. I shouldn’t jump to conclusions I guess. My disability is my sight going bad so that’s why the wife does all the driving, except on a back road then I will drive it a short distance to determine what a problem is she is complaining about.
