About
Only 502 produced. It was Buick’s 20th anniversary model. It served as the official pace car for the 1983 Indy 500. Only 2 were made as convertibles and the other 500 were like this one. The 2 covertibles were the pace cars themselves. Although most cars came with the V8 engine, they did offer a Turbo V6 as an option. The wire wheels were true wire wheels made by the Appliance Wheel Company. The Riviera XX emblems on the fenders, trunk and grille were plated in 24-carat gold. Real English Walnut wood veneer trim plates in the interior. 140 mph speedometer. Special grille for this car that became standard for the Riviera in 1984. There are many more options that were special for this car; but, unless you are a Buick buff…. I figure that you are probably tired of reading about this car.
History of this Vehicle
My father bought it in 1989, I believe, and paid the dealership as if it was just an ordinary 1983 Buick Riviera. My father didn’t really know that much about the rarity of the car until a center hubcap on the wire wheel was lost (or stolen). My father gave me this car on my 40th birthday and was the last birthday gift he gave me prior to his passing in 2005. He once owned a 63 Buick Riviera…. that I loved as a child, and he never forgot that which made it even more special when I got this car. It has always been garaged kept and is still all original. I take it to car shows and have had great pleasure in driving it.
Plans for this Vehicle
Continue the tradition of keeping in my shop, keeping it in mint condition, and taking it to car shows from time-to-time. I have plans of maybe going to one of the Riviera Owners Assoc. events sometime.
