The New Way To Notch

We’re really excited about our new step notch kit… not that it’s a new product idea in itself, or a brand new widget that nobody’s seen before; it’s just a completely new way of building a step notch. Or rather, it’s a completely new way for you to build it! I won’t spend a lot of time here talking about the actual fabrication end of things – please check out a step by step how-to article on the Welder Series blog for that: making & installing a rear step notch kit. It’s an easy read, with lots of pictures.

There are some definite advantages over traditional step notch kits on the market today:

  • Do most of the welding on your bench
  • Alignment tabs keep everything square
  • After it’s welded, just set it on the frame and tack it in place – only two hands required, and no clamping or spacers!
  • Built-in inner frame rail boxing plates
  • Supplied ready-to-weld or welded

The notch depth will vary, depending on how tall the frame rails are, and what sweep the original frame rails have. The S10 we used for our installation article, for instance, has 4″ of clearance between the top of the axle and the notch when the frame is laying on the ground. The measurement was taken with 18″ wheels.

Only $90 for a pair ready-to-weld (flat pieces), or $110/pr welded as in the third picture below (unground welds though).

If you have any questions about the kit, or would like some more pictures, please give us a call toll-free or shoot us an email.
